Guide to Casares

Situated on the cliff top, Casares’ dramatic location makes for some exceptional views, however was primarily chosen as the ultimate defence mechanism in ancient times. While the white village is easily noticeable from afar, there’s no way an army could come upon Casares unnoticed – a panoramic vista of some 40 square kilometres can be enjoyed from the village which is part of its attraction.

Casares is a picture postcard village with a population of just three thousand and the view from the approach is definitely worth a photo or two. Spectacular, rural and impressively daring in its architectural makeup, Casares attracts plenty of visitors all year round. 

It is one of the few locations on the Costa del Sol when its visitors are so impressed with the scenery that they do not take any notice of the weather. The dramatically climbing streets, the winding roads and the cobbled squares draw the attention, while the authentic Spanish lifestyle is culturally pure, untouched and still so traditional.

It is hard to believe that this enchanting, Spanish village is only nine miles from the hustle and bustle of the coast and somehow succeeded in avoiding becoming overly focused on tourism. Caseras really is an up and coming area and buyers are advised to explore here for value for money properties before they all go!

Currently, there are some excellent value for money properties available within this area. There are new developments with 2-3 bedroom apartments starting from 90,000 Euros. These also include storage and parking which is a real steal in Spain. Many properties are only a short walk to the beach and bars and restaurants which is a sought after request from many of our Clients.

Casares is a pleasant white village to stroll around. Visit Blas Infante birthplace, Iglesia de San Sebastian, near the square or climb up via Puerta Calle Arrabal, to the Castle, ruined church, Iglesia de la Encarnación now Centro Cultural Blas Infante, old cemetery. There are also number of signed walks just outside the village.

Further afield there are beaches such as the Playa de la Sal which allows dogs and are beautiful and well kept. There are also golf courses in Casares and neighbouring towns.

There is a 20 stall street marked in Calle Copera on Friday mornings 08.00 to 14.00 where you can pick up some good purchases from clothes to beautiful fresh produce.

Gibraltar is only a relatively short drive away from Caseras. Many expats like to take the opportunity to visit here and stock up on English provisions that they cannot get in the other supermarkets, it is quite an experience driving across the airport runway to get into Gibraltar!
