Guide to Manilva

Manilva is a municipality which lies on the coast at the south-westernmost edge of the province of Málaga, bordering with the province of Cádiz in the autonomous community of Andalusia in Spain. Offering a prime location on the Costa del Sol, with facilities and beaches equalling or bettering those further East on the Costa , the area of Manilva offers a relaxing way of life.

Tourism has only recently come to Manilva, followed closely by property investment opportunities so represents an excellent option for a holiday home, rental opportunities or putting down more permanent roots.

The 1970s introduce the first golf courses and the construction to the marina at Puerto de la Duquesa. Despite this, Manilva maintains its Spanish feel and charm; from the white washed houses and surrounding vineyards to the unique fishing town of Castillo de Duquesa.

Manilva today blends the traditional with the modern and boasts wide empty beaches and excellent sea food restaurants to enjoy the evening sunset. From acclaimed golf courses of Manilva to the trendy yachts at Puerto de Duquesa there is something for everyone, particularly with the nearby shopping centre in Sabinillas.

Manilva town is only small and situated approximately 3km inland from the coast and located toward the far (western) end of the Costa del Sol, beyond Estepona and a short drive from Sotogrande.

The town itself is peaceful and unpretentious with many idyllic cafes to unwind in and avoid the tourist trap of nearby neighbouring resorts. The area can be lively though and as with most Andalusian villages it has its fair share of festivals and ferias, including the lively “Vendimia” or Grape harvesting held in the first weekend in September.

I mentioned golf and with over 30 courses available within 40 minutes including two world class championship courses, Valderrama and Finca Cortesin as well as the popular La Duquesa Golf Club in Manilva you will be spoilt for choice.

In the evening you have a choice from the quieter bespoke cafes and bars in the quieter town area of head down to the promenade for a more lively experience!
